Nizar Ladak is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Ontario Health Quality Council. Nizar has close to 20 years of experience in Ontario’s healthcare sector. He is the former Vice President and inaugural Chief Information Officer of North York General Hospital (NYGH). While at NYGH, Nizar participated in major process re-engineering initiatives involving LEAN and Six Sigma and was Executive Lead to the Board of Governor’s Quality Committee. He also led the establishment of the hospital’s eHealth Strategy towards the implementation of Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and Clinical Documentation. Prior to that, as one of the founding senior directors of the Central East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), he negotiated accountability agreements and established performance indicators for health service providers in the central east. As Director at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), Nizar established the first in a series of web-based reports for over 500 hospitals across Canada for CIHI’s inpatient database. In his senior role at the former Ontario Joint Policy and Planning Committee (JPPC), he was involved in the design of hospital funding formulas that laid the groundwork for population-based funding approaches.
